FAQs: Frequently asked questions about our Backpack »Lenny« CAN I TAKE THE RETRO BACKPACK "LENNY", OLIVE-GREEN, ON THE PLANE? This retro backpack meets the dimensions specified by common airlines and the IATA. The rolltop backpack is the ideal carry-on luggage for almost any mode of transportation. IS THE RETRO BACKPACK "LENNY", OLIVE-GREEN, RIGID OR RATHER SOFT? Our canvas retro backpack falls under the category of soft luggage and is partly made of soft cotton canvas in olive-green. Therefore, its shape changes somewhat depending on how full it is. The advantage is that the vintage rolltop backpack can be stowed away more easily when it is not needed. We deliberately refrain from using plastic coatings that would give the bag a rigid shape. IS THE RETRO BACKPACK "LENNY", OLIVE-GREEN, SUITABLE IN SIZE ONLY FOR MEN, OR ALSO FOR WOMEN AND CHILDREN? The backpack is rather large and is best suited for a tall person (175-185cm). However, it is adjustable in size and can therefore be worn by shorter individuals as well. IS THE CANVAS RETRO BACKPACK "LENNY", OLIVE-GREEN, WATERPROOF OR WATER-RESISTANT? The rolltop backpack made of canvas and leather has been designed after the model of classic mountain or hunting backpacks of the 19th century. To remain as authentic as possible, we only use materials that were available 100 years ago and largely avoid plastics and chemicals. Unfortunately, our canvas rolltop backpack is not waterproof or water-resistant in its standard configuration. However, a brief rain shower won't harm our bags. Alternatively, the rolltop backpack can be treated to resist moisture. CAN THE RETRO BACKPACK "LENNY", OLIVE-GREEN, BE MADE WATERPROOF AFTERWARDS? The rolltop backpack can be easily impregnated afterwards, using a commercially available and colorless impregnating spray (e.g., Imprägnol). Alternatively, you can also use impregnating wax (e.g., Dr. Gee's Impregnating Wax). Just keep in mind that this can change the color and texture of the bag. It is best to test the impregnation on the backside. HOW CAN I CLEAN AND MAINTAIN MY RETRO BACKPACK "LENNY", OLIVE-GREEN? We believe that a retro backpack in vintage design should show how intensively it has been used. That's how it should be. However, if you feel the need to clean your bag, we recommend three steps: Remove dust and dirt particles from the backpack, for example, with a brush or handheld vacuum cleaner. Gently dab and rub out stains with a clean, wet cloth. If the stains are stubborn, you might want to try a mild lye. Occasionally lightly grease the leather (e.g., leather care with beeswax or carnauba wax). Be careful not to get the canvas to avoid stains. WHAT TYPE OF LEATHER IS USED FOR THE RETRO BACKPACK "LENNY", OLIVE-GREEN? We exclusively use vegetable-tanned, full-grain buffalo leather for the retro backpack. This particularly robust leather comes from India. During production, our leather is additionally hand-finished with a colored carnauba-based wax, giving it its special vintage patina. A perfect interplay with our cotton canvas. WHERE AND HOW IS THE RETRO BACKPACK "LENNY", OLIVE-GREEN, PRODUCED? Our goods are manufactured in India. Our factory is a small family business, whose long-standing employees craft our bags with much heart and passion. Over time, a genuine friendship has developed from our long collaboration. The production conditions are socially responsible and conform to BSCI standards. We regularly personally verify this. Our leather and cotton fabrics come directly from local sources in India. Only dyes that are free from AZO dyes are used for coloring our cotton fabrics. Our leathers are generally vegetable-tanned, i.e., based on plants and without the use of aggressive tanning agents. Our standards are socially and ecologically justifiable and above average. However, it is our claim to continue to improve and further minimize our ecological and social "footprint." OUR LEATHER PRODUCTION IS LWG CERTIFIED Our leather tannery is certified to the LWG standard and we use only vegetable tanning agents for tanning. The Leather Working Group (LWG) is an initiative to make conditions in tanneries and intermediaries more transparent and to bring about sustainable change. To implement its goals, the Leather Working Group has developed an audit protocol for sustainable and responsible leather production.
